October 17, 2013

Yesterday was Chris' birthday, we had a great time.

Sharon, one of our contributors, has been a HUGE blessing during our visits.  She is teaching me some sewing skills, which I lack considerably.  She sent a box of goodies.  Praise God for her -- what a blessing for me.

We are one day closer to getting our new machine delivered.  Please make sure you think about us and pray/meditate for us in the next two weeks.  They will be cruicial in making certain we get things all set for fall.

I'm supposed to have professional pictures taken of the house and the property -- we have so many trees that, if the wind doesn't blow off all of our leaves, we will have a yard full of color over the next two weeks.  So, wish us luck for a bright, sunny day and that I get my house cleaned before the photographer shows up.  It is really nice of her -- she is doing it for free so that she can add some additional pictures to her portfolio.  So, a win/win situation.

Not certain if I've shared this quilt before, but I love it so I wanted to share it with all.

As a very important note:  Please provide me with a current address.  I've tried to send gifts to both Kathy and Sharon, yet they keep getting returned.  I will try again tomorrow.

Also, one last thing -- I'm in the need for some different sized walker bags.  I have a small lady who has a smaller walker.  AND...I have quite a large man who has a MUCH larger walker than what I'm used to.  So, some larger samples and smaller samples are needed.  I still continue to visit with people -- I love hearing their stories.  They are all sad when I arrive empty handed.  I can't wait to get the machine so that I can, once again, be the bearer of good things once again.

I found two machines on a free (!!!) site, but didn't get my name in quick enough to receive either machine.  Let's hope that opportunity comes up again.  Thanks!

In Christs' Service,

Kay

October 13, 2013

Once again, a note on a personal side.  First, went to a craft show and some garage sales.  Met wonderful folks and God really blessed me with some great bargains!  Went to a few Goodwill stores but nothing yielded a sewing machine.  Couldn't find anything on Craigslist -- so not a lot of luck.  But, we have next weekend -- so lets keep trying and praying!

Second, we spent my husbands birthday on a wonderful evening at our local dinner and a show.  How much fun!  I'm showing his picture today in honor of his birthday, but most important, because he's such a patient and hard work for our charity.

Third, remember we had two surprises this week?  It's time to reveal the the second surprise.  We have our own phone number!  Yay!  It is (224) 888-1463.  I really liked this phone number, because it's
224 888 1GOD.  And, as long as we keep God number first -- who can stand against us?  Nobody!  Amen.

Until next week -- Kay

October 8, 2013

Okay, remember I said that I had two pieces of good news to share this week?  Well, here is the first one:  We have our FIRST Small Business sponsor!!!  He has agreed to an initial gift of $100.  And an ongoing gift of $50.00 per week for the first 4 weeks, and $25.00 a week for 6 months.  After that, he will re-evaluate his giving and our needs and we'll go from there.

Isn't that just a GREAT BIG BLESSING!!!!  Wow.  God's grace is unending.  So, let me take a minute to say thank you to our sponsor (who chooses to remain anonymous, or I'd have his name posted all over this site), and say that we still need 4 or 5 more to maintain our charity.  However, this is a BLESSING post, so I just want to bask in the Glory that God has led this man to us, and how He leads is how we will follow.

I will mention that I didn't know this fellow -- in fact, he is from a different state.  However, it was because someone that I did know share our needs with him that our sponsor decided to come along and work by our side.  Although he couldn't give a specific, he could give a gift of money and a gift of prayer.  Both of those gifts are welcomed!  Yay!

I've been so blessed this week, both personally and spiritually.  I have seen miraculous wonders and know that the week has just began.   I want to personally thank EVERYONE who continues to support us through prayers.  Prayers change things!!!  I look forward to sharing many blessings with you in days to come.

We continue to be in need of a sewing machine, so please keep that in your thoughts.  We continue to need fabric coming in (so that I will have enough to fill the "back orders" we have coming through).  I call them backorders -- but how can someone "order" something through us?  Well, they can't, really.  It would be more appropriate to call them "back requests".  People who have asked me for bags and other things.  And I take their name down, and tell them as soon as we get a machine, we'll get these right out to them.   Anyway, my list is long.  So, if you're led by God, now is a good time to send.

I've started taking pictures of my studio, and will promise to post a WAY better tutorial -- I'm so embarrassed of the one I posted that I want to take it down from the website because it doesn't capture the quality of work we produce -- and will promise to post more pictures of past projects.  Today, I'm posting a picture of my daughter, because she just looks so happy and I feel as happy as she looks!  I should try to figure out how to quilt that picture.  I have seen other people quilt pictures.  I'm not to that skill, and of course, it'd be last on my "to do" list, but I'd like to keep this picture of my happy daughter in my mind.  I'm on top of the world knowing that, because of *you* the reader, we are making a difference in this world.

Love in Christ,

Kay

October 7, 2013

First, let me say that we had some disappointments over the weekend as far as machines go -- but we are called to be good steward of Gods blessings.  I did my due diligence, determined the value of the machine, went as high as I could -- but there was always someone there with just that next bid that took me out of the running.  That is okay -- God will provide when the time is right.

I don't want to spoil it for you -- but be looking for 2 really awesome announcements this week.  I have to keep the suspense building so you'll keep coming back.  I updated the website -- pay close attention to the "Experimental Expansion" button on the inspiration page.

My overall idea is to have one website, then have offshoots from there.  GodsGoodGraces.com should be my mainsite, with walkertote.com as an offshoot from there.  Here we will discuss walkertotes and all things walkertotes related.

Another page I want is quiltgifter.com -- and that way I can take the quilts off of this page, and dedicate an entire website for just them. Also, I think just concentrate on one idea per website will keep the site uncluttered and easier to traverse.

Another webpage I want is ChrisandKayWood.com -- where I can keep people uptodate on our personal lives and the miracles and wonders that we get to share with God.  That way, people of all faiths can feel comfortable perusing walkertote.com or other sites that we may have.  (although I will continue to give God all the glory for His grace).

So, I have a lot of work to do while my machine is down.  I'm not an idle person by nature, so getting out there and trying for sponsors, as well as trying to get the word out about the site, as well as getting these sites split are keeping me busy.  But never too busy for my friends -- so feel free to email me and we can chat.

Love in Christ for now,

Kay Wood

October 2nd, 2013

My stash of books

My stash needing to be sorted

My hanging Stash

My stash needing to be mailed, or sorted

The last roll of my backing fabric -- I'll probably guard this to the very end.

First, let me thank my ever-faithful followers and contributors.  Let's do a give away for those who leave comments, since I don't seem to be getting many comments.  Also, I need to include a "Blogs I always look at" section.  Does anyone have a clue how to do this?  There are many people I follow, for ideas, for inspirations, for actual step by step instructions, for socialization.  How to I link to their pages?  I will be trying to figure that out today.

Second, I need my machine fixed very badly.  I've added another $60.00 to the budget by cancelling my hotel reservations for my sisters wedding and opting to stay in the car, instead (I don't suggest or encourage anyone else to do this).  But, this project is so close to my heart, so I willingly choose to do this.  It didn't cost me anything to cancel the reservation, and I will buy batting with the money.  I started hand sewing those areas that I could to keep the bags going out.

But, I sure could use help promoting this site.  I know -- the economy is in such a disarray right now, that it is hard to convince people to give to others.  But, I know there are people out there that are  in the position to give, that are being called by God, they just need the extra inspiration.  Well, it is my intent to nudge them this way.  We are doing such a wonderful work!  Let's keep up this tradition.  Please don't stop sending -- as soon as my machine gets back up, I'll be zipping through these backorders, and using fabric so fast it'll make your head spin.  So, I am going to use this time to learn my web capabilities, and to learn some new techniques, and to build my stash so that when the time comes, I'm ready in full force.

One more thing, if you are luckily enough to find someone who God sends our way, they can go to GodsGoodGraces.com and use the Paypal Donate link there (I have no idea why I can't use that button on walkertote.com) Or, they can just directly put a cash donation in PayPal under myfacegame.com.  Please have them add their address so that I can receipt to them every cent so they realize that the money is being used for walkertote.com.  I have only created one project for personal reasons, and I made certain that I had the donators permission first.  Otherwise, everything has, and it is my intent that it always will be, used for walkertote.com (or quiltergifter.com, if it is a quilt that is given).

Love in Christ,

Kay

September 29. 2013

Wow.  I feel like I haven't written in forever.  I guess it has been a while.  Added a new friend and contributor, Sharon, so that was awesome.  Made some changes to the website, so that was a blessing.  I think the website is ready to be promoted.  I think all the links work.  I'm literally asking for donations at this time.  I'm kind of embarrassed to ask for anything.  For one, God has always blessed me and I've always managed to provide for myself and others.  This is the first time in my life that I've been in a position that I've not had the ability to do as I wish.  But, disability has a way of changing the way one lives.  Second, the things I'm asking for are SO expensive.  I have thought about the things I've given to others over the years, and although I feel I have been generous, it has dawned on me that not everyone is in the position to make such a commitment to our mission.  The economy -- the senate, the house of representatives -- everything is up in the air, and so I don't expect much.  However, I do believe "ye have not because ye ask not", so I just dedicated part of the webpage for just coming out and asking. I do trust that we will find the right donor at the right machine at the time that God directs.  So, I'm not really worried, I'm just more on the anxious side.

Meanwhile, it looks like it will be a while until I see my sister, so I will post her quilt.  She is getting married in October.  It is my goal to go -- but hubby and I will have to take the motorcycle, so it depends a lot on the weather.  I also have a couple of smaller quilts to post.  I have about 4 more walker bags to post.  No more shopping bags but I did get a request for some "shoulder wraps".  I think it's a great idea.  The older ladies (and gentlemen -- can't forget my men), just need something to throw over their shoulders so they can stay outside a little longer as the as gets a little chillier during the passing of the year.  I toyed around with some ideas, and finally came up with a great design.  I added a little deer feed corn (so it doesn't pop), and that adds a little weight and also, they can heat it for a little while in the microwave if they choose.  But mostly it gives the weight that is needed.

Now, for the bad news -- my machine has stopped doing decorative stitches -- so I was relegated to using just a straight stitch for over a week.  Alas, at this point, even my straight stitch no longer works, so I'm dead in the water without a machine.  Yikes!  Technically, my machine is 35 years old and is long over due for a tune up (last tune up was in 1995).  -- But I did buy the machine 2nd hand.  It was $250.00 to have a guy "look it over".  If I took it to an authorized service dealer (my first choice) it will be $350.00 just to have it tuned up, and it will be extra to have the machine repaired, if needed (and it does), plus additional for parts and labor.  Wow.  Having a quality machine is important, but I feel it's very important to take good care of your equipment, and your equipment will take care of you.  So, I don't really feel qualified to try to fix anything myself -- or have just anyone "tinker" with it in hopes to get it to work.  Even if I get another machine, I still need this machine as a backup.  So, things will be a little tight for a while.

But please don't stop sending fabric and supplies!  I have enough stash to keep me busy for a couple of  weeks, but when a different machine arrives, or I get my machine fixed, I'll need plenty of stock to fill all the requests and construct a few things to have on hand for those last minute needs.  The holidays are coming up, and although these aren't holiday gifts, it is a GREAT time to think of those that are in need.

Speaking of gaining fabric, thank you to my faithful friends who send me such good quality fabrics.  My friends from Colorado send gifts that leave me speechless, and our good friend Angie has contributed some great fabrics that will just blow the socks off the recipients.  I can't wait to get some of the goodies out to the retirement homes.  Just come on, sewing machine!

God provides, and this is all for His glory.  In fact, I took advantage of another 99cent sale, and registered GodsGoodGraces.com.  Right now, there are only links for my individual pages -- of which the only page that is up is walkertote.com.  However, I will eventually use walkertote.com for just the promotion of walkertotes, and QuiltGifter.com for promotions of the quilts (thus separating walkertotes and quilts, and everything else).  ChrisandKayWood.com for personal experiences, etc.  Interestingly enough, I was approached by a gentleman who told me that WalkerBags.com was for sale.  Walkerbags.com would be a much better name for what we do -- however, the asking price is $11,000.  HOLY cow.  I did explain to him that we are a charity and we are not interested.  He looked at walkertote.com and offered us a 20% discount for the domain name.  But, the last thing on my mind is a domain name that may be a bit more "convenient".  I think that we, together as a team, can promote walkertote.com throughout our individual communities and I am happy with our efforts.

I will encourage you to look over walkertote.com and give me honest feedback.  Am I asking too much?  Am I not showing enough progress?  Is there a good balance?  Is our mission well stated?  Are there spelling or formatting errors that could be changed?  I'm totally open for suggestions.  I've never really done anything like this before, so the more input I have, the better off I am.

Love in Christ to all.  Please remember you are so important to our success.  I can't wait to jump right back in and give right out.  If you know of *anyone* in need, let me know.  I am behind right now, but as soon as we're functional again, I'll get right on it.  I am pretty comfortable sewing six to 8 hours a day, so I go through supplies pretty fast.

Okay, sorry, one more thing.  This wouldn't be such a long entry had I not waited so long to write.  However, I am working towards this "quilt by the block" theory -- it may allow me to do more without having the expense of sending the quilts out (which is expensive) and if I get the method perfected, then we can take the Kingsized quilter off of our wishlist.  What a relief that will be!

September 20, 2013

Tommorrow is my daughters birthday.  I sure am missing her, and her smiling face.  She did call and we talked for a long time.  It was great to hear how well she is doing.

No new walker bags today.  I did finish piecing my sisters quilt -- two months late.  At this point, I will probably save it and give it to her for the Holidays.  It still needs to be quilted, and I don't think my machine will quilt something that size, so I'll have to send it out to be quilted.  Argh.  Not looking forward to that expense.  I don't want to post the picture in case she ever peruses my site, so you'll have to take my word that it turned out well.

I publicly want to thank my dear friend, Kathy, who the Good Lord sent me.  She is a blessing!

Tomorrows agenda is very full.  Oh, I almost forgot.  Yesterday, I finished a great project.  I took some pictures but they didn't turn out as well as I hoped.   I'll see if my husband can get better shots of the finished piece, then I'll post them.

Looking forward til tomorrow!  May the Good Lord bless you and keep you.

Kay
